Following up on my post the other day, 7 Reasons Extremist Republicans Have Taken The United States Hostage (+ 1 Silver Lining), here’s more on just how crazy some Republicans (Tea Partiers) have become.
First of all, however, this is a superb speech from Senator Elizabeth Warren on the absurdity of what is happening today (before the shutdown even started):
Now, as the title of this article was stating… it turns out that Big Money, the folks behind much of the growth of the “Tea Party” that has come to take the US hostage, is realizing it screwed up and created a bit of a Frankenstein. Big Money leaders at the US Chamber of Commerce and Wall Street CEOs are reportedly now dedicated to getting Tea Partiers out of Congress and preventing more from coming in.
Why? Well, as almost everyone can clearly see, these lunatics are holding the country hostage, damaging the US economy, and threatening to damage it (and perhaps even the global economy) massively simply because they want a law removed or changed but are unable to do so through the normal means (since they lost the elections last year and simply don’t have the power to change anything without shutting down the US government). Again, this is not just a matter of being sore losers — these people are committing political terrorism and treason. They are no longer just a threat to the middle class and poor, but also to many of the rich and super-rich.
Here’s more, from TPM via DailyKos:
Having failed to persuade their traditional Republican allies in Congress to avert a government shutdown, business leaders fear bigger problems ahead, and they’re taking sides with a Democratic president whose health care and regulatory agenda they have vigorously opposed.
President Barack Obama is embracing the business outreach, eager to employ groups like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Wall Street CEOs to portray House Republicans as out of touch even with their long-established corporate and financial patrons.

On Wednesday, Obama is hosting chief executives from the nation’s 19 biggest financial firms. Moreover, the Chamber of Commerce has sent a letter to Congress signed by about 250 business groups urging no shutdown and warning against a debt ceiling crisis that they say could lead to an economically disastrous default.
snip
The letter circulated by the Chamber of Commerce urges lawmakers to raise the debt ceiling “in a timely manner and remove any threat to the full faith and credit of the United States government.”

Concerned, the Chamber of Commerce is preparing to participate in political primaries, protecting friendly lawmakers from conservative challengers. “Clearly we’re getting to a point where we need a Congress that’s going to be productive, proactive and create a stable environment for economic growth and job creation,” said Scott Reed, a Republican political consultant who is advising the chamber on its strategy.
Yep, even many of the rich people who have rigged the system to give rich people more power and more benefits, who have helped the Tea Party to grow and gain power so that they could achieve more of their greedy and reckless wishes, have now realized that this was a very bad mistake. They’ve now realized that the Tea Partiers are not for better government. They are for a broken or no government. They would turn the US into Somalia if they got their way….
