Continuing on with our Green NGO Highlighted series, here’s another great one I had never heard of before a Facebook friend of mine shared it with me — the Children and Nature Network. I have a feeling you can guess what this one’s about.
Things in the Works…
I know it’s been FOREVER since I was posting on here. Think I’m going to get back to doing so a little more regularly. But in a different way. Just going to write about what’s going on, rather than re-share…
Switzerland + Bikes = Beautiful & Awesome
Switzerland looks like one of the prettiest countries in the world. It’s got an amazing quality of life. And I heard recently that it has NEVER been in debt. Wow. I think the U.S. could learn a lesson or two from this leading country (starting with: DON’T POUR YOUR MONEY INTO WARS & “DEFENSE”).
Bill Clinton’s CNN Vegan Interview
It’s Bill Clinton’s 65th Birthday today. And as I previewed, a feature interview on him and his vegan diet was on CNN last night. I’m having trouble finding the full piece (I’ll update this if I do). Above is the only video I can find on CNN so far, a preview to the show, “The Last Heart Attack.” And here’s a 9-minute video of coverage from around, of that interview and others
Bamboo Bike Project {Green NGO Highlighted}
Continuing on with my Green NGO Highlighted series, which I got away from for a short time, here’s a cool one a good Facebook friend of mine shared with me nearly two months ago. It’s the Bamboo Bike Project, based in Africa, which combines two of the greenest things on the planet.. bamboo and bikes.
Vegan Bill Clinton Getting Some Air Time on Sunday
I wrote about Bill Clinton going (almost) vegan back on October 1, 2010. At the time, he was thrilled with the diet, how it made him feel, and his weight loss. Seems he’s still quite happy with it according to comments published in the LATimes on Thursday:
“It’s turning a ship around before it hits the iceberg, but I think we’re beginning to turn it around,” Clinton told CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta.
Monsanto Pulled to Court by India for “Biopiracy”
Monsanto and India don’t have a very cozy relationship. Monsanto came in on the promise of cheaper crops, alleviating hunger, and so on and so on. India found out before long that they got totally ripped off and screwed by the agribusiness multinational giant. Thousands upon thousands upon thousands of Indian farmers have actually committed suicide in response to Monsanto’s screw-you (with a smile), give-money-to-us genetically modified (GM) crops.
The latest in this long, sad saga is that the National Biodiversity Authority of India (NBA) is suing Monsanto, Mahyco, and other collaborators who were involved in “accessing and using local brinjal varieties in developing Bt Brinjal without prior approval of the competent authorities” (aka biopiracy).
4 Vegetarian Restaurants in Prague (Czech Republic)
I went to Prague last weekend with my partner, Marika, as she had a couple days off and I had never been there before. Of course, any time we visit a new city, especially a global city like Prague, we love to scout out some good vegetarian restaurants and health food stores and try out some new food. (You might even say it’s one of our main aims.)
What is in Orange Juice? Not What You Think
Orange juice is just orange juice, right? That “100% juice, not made from concentrate,” Tropicana or Florida orange juice stuff, I mean. Well, no… I’ll give you a warning, though, if you love it and nothing’s going to make you stop drinking it anyway, you may not want to read on, ’cause this is gonna get nasty….
Organic Farmers Can Now Sue GMO, Conventional Farmers Whose Pesticides Trespass in Minnesota
We don’t seem to get a lot of good news when it comes to GMO vs organic legislation. But the courts have been more friendly to the rights of organic farmers and consumers than government administrators and legislators in the U.S., and an appeals court in Minnesota follows that trend.
