This is a totally cool project my mom ran across on StumbleUpon and shared with me. It’s a film project in which the film is made up of the work of thousands of filmmakers all over the world (every country in the world) using material from the same day, October 10, 2010. Even this short trailer above includes the work of 90 individuals and organizations. Cool, and beautiful work.
Habitat for Humanity & Center for Creative Land Recycling Team Up for Huge East Oakland Project
Last week, I featured a great project by the Center for Creative Land Recycling (CCLR), the Sacramento Railyard renovation and revitalization project. CCLR is focused on reusing or recycling brownfields, lands dirtied with industrial contamination that just need a bit of effort to get in use again. This is popular, exciting work amongst city planners — it’s like turning an old, beat-up car into a beauty again.
Rawesome Foods Gets Armed Raid for Providing Raw Goat Milk & Cheese
Nearly one year ago, Becky wrote about a ridiculous armed raid of a raw food co-op in California, Rawesome (video above of that). What a waste of resources. What a ridiculous raid in the first place. Now, apparently, the agencies involved in that raid have decided it wasn’t a waste of resources and have even decided it’s worth conducting another such raid. They’ve arrested 3 people on 13 counts of conspiracy to sell unpasteurized dairy products.
“A multi-agency SWAT-style armed raid was conducted this morning by helmet-wearing, gun-carrying enforcement agents from the LA County Sheriff’s Office, the FDA, the Dept. of Agriculture and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control),” Mike Adams of Natural News reported yesterday….
Rebirth of Sacramento Railyard & Center for Creative Land Recycling {Green NGO Highlighted}
With my professional training in city planning, I have to admit that I get giddy over cool smart growth projects. I recently ran across one such project, a super cool one, and one of the key organizations behind it. The project is the redevelopment of Sacramento’s downtown railyard, which apparently employed 10,000 employees at the height of its use and was the largest single workforce in Central Valley for 8 decades. One of the key organizations behind it is the Center for Creative Land Recycling (CCLR).
Food Justice on the Way!.. via Food & Freedom Riders
Food justice is a big issue in the United States. We like to think of our country as being so just, so developed, so civilized, but the truth is there’s a ton of injustice in the US, including food injustice.
13 young leaders concerned about this and wanting to make a difference are about to set out on an 8-state, 2000-mile ride to expose this and try to bring a little more justice to our country.
Bike-Sharing Program in Wrocław, Poland — 1st Ride
I wrote a pretty extensive introduction to Wrocław’s new bike-sharing program about a month and a half ago, with 18 photos and 2 videos included. Now, I said that I would write an update once I tried it out and I finally have. Marika (my partner) and I were walking to the store today and decided on the way to try it out if there were any bikes available (every other time we went to try it out there weren’t bikes available or, once, the system was down). It was quite simple to use, the process being…
Organic & Raw Food Restaurant, Prasad — Best Food in the World?
Prasad — a delicious organic and raw food restaurant in Portland… and my visit there.
Plastic World (Infographic)
Plastic — can you imagine a day without it? It has come to be a component of nearly everything we buy and use, it seems. On the one hand, plastic has made things possible that might not have been possible. On the other hand, there are a few major problems (at least) with its widespread use….
Plastic: Infographic and Action to Fight It
Plastic bag bans are becoming more and more popular, spreading from California to India (or India to California) and many places in between. The latest plastic bag bans I’ve heard of are in…
Plastic in Our Oceans, & How to Keep it Out {Infographic}
Plastic oceans. Sea creatures full of plastic. This is a reality today. Tons and tons of plastic now live in the oceans of the world. There’s a Great Pacific Garbage Patch and a Great Atlantic Garbage Patch and many other garbage patches now. And, sadly, they grow every day, because we continue to produce amounts of plastic that are hard to even comprehend.
