San Francisco Transbay Transit Center [VIDEO]

San Francisco has started construction on one of the coolest transit stations (maybe even the coolest) in the world. It is expected to transform downtown San Francisco and is already being deemed the “Grand Central of the West” (and I might add, the Grand Central of the 21st century). It looks like it is going to be beautiful and is also a model of green urban design.

The transit center will include a 5.4 acre park, “City Park,” on the roof of the bus and rail station. It will include an open air amphitheatre, gardens, a trail for running/walking, open grass areas for picnics, lily ponds and more.

The 1 million square foot regional transportation hub will serve 10 different transit operators.

A short animation and media gallery of the “Transbay Transit Center” is available on its website, as well as info on construction updates, a project timeline, etc. You can also view an animated tour of the site below via YouTube. They just broke ground on the site on Wednesday, so I will try to keep you updated on big news along the way as it comes.
