Bill Clinton’s CNN Vegan Interview

Bill Clinton’s CNN Vegan Interview

It’s Bill Clinton’s 65th Birthday today. And as I previewed, a feature interview on him and his vegan diet was on CNN last night. I’m having trouble finding the full piece (I’ll update this if I do). Above is the only video I can find on CNN so far, a preview to the show, “The Last Heart Attack.” And here’s a 9-minute video of coverage from around, of that interview and others

Monsanto Pulled to Court by India for “Biopiracy”

Monsanto and India don’t have a very cozy relationship. Monsanto came in on the promise of cheaper crops, alleviating hunger, and so on and so on. India found out before long that they got totally ripped off and screwed by the agribusiness multinational giant. Thousands upon thousands upon thousands of Indian farmers have actually committed suicide in response to Monsanto’s screw-you (with a smile), give-money-to-us genetically modified (GM) crops.

The latest in this long, sad saga is that the National Biodiversity Authority of India (NBA) is suing Monsanto, Mahyco, and other collaborators who were involved in “accessing and using local brinjal varieties in developing Bt Brinjal without prior approval of the competent authorities” (aka biopiracy).

Rawesome Foods Gets Armed Raid for Providing Raw Goat Milk & Cheese

Rawesome Foods Gets Armed Raid for Providing Raw Goat Milk & Cheese

Nearly one year ago, Becky wrote about a ridiculous armed raid of a raw food co-op in California, Rawesome (video above of that). What a waste of resources. What a ridiculous raid in the first place. Now, apparently, the agencies involved in that raid have decided it wasn’t a waste of resources and have even decided it’s worth conducting another such raid. They’ve arrested 3 people on 13 counts of conspiracy to sell unpasteurized dairy products.

“A multi-agency SWAT-style armed raid was conducted this morning by helmet-wearing, gun-carrying enforcement agents from the LA County Sheriff’s Office, the FDA, the Dept. of Agriculture and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control),” Mike Adams of Natural News reported yesterday….

Food Justice on the Way!.. via Food & Freedom Riders

Food justice is a big issue in the United States. We like to think of our country as being so just, so developed, so civilized, but the truth is there’s a ton of injustice in the US, including food injustice.

13 young leaders concerned about this and wanting to make a difference are about to set out on an 8-state, 2000-mile ride to expose this and try to bring a little more justice to our country.

Plastic World (Infographic)

Plastic — can you imagine a day without it? It has come to be a component of nearly everything we buy and use, it seems. On the one hand, plastic has made things possible that might not have been possible. On the other hand, there are a few major problems (at least) with its widespread use….

Plastic in Our Oceans, & How to Keep it Out {Infographic}

Plastic oceans. Sea creatures full of plastic. This is a reality today. Tons and tons of plastic now live in the oceans of the world. There’s a Great Pacific Garbage Patch and a Great Atlantic Garbage Patch and many other garbage patches now. And, sadly, they grow every day, because we continue to produce amounts of plastic that are hard to even comprehend.

How To: Smoothies

We got on a huge smoothie kick this summer. We discovered that a dinky little blender of ours could actually make them and were making smoothies every day for a week or two. Now, while smoothies are a delicious, special treat, they are not at all difficult to make. However, if you’ve never made one before, you may not believe me. So, I’m writing this short little post (photos included) to tell you how to make smoothies (or, at least, how I like to make them) and to let you know about one of my favorite recipes.

Arsenic in Your Apple Juice? Probably..

While the EPA limits arsenic in our drinking water to 10 parts per billion, recent tests* have found the amount of arsenic in apple juice (Mott’s Apple Juice, in particular) to be 5.5 parts per billion — 5.5 times more than what the EPA will let us drink! The FDA does not regulate arsenic in juice at all, unfortunately. However, as a result of this finding and recent research it has conducted on food imports in the U.S., Food & Water Watch is pushing the government agency to start doing so.
